Providing Sanctuary Since 2011 at The Good Earth Farm

Meet Our Animals

  • T-Bone

Meet T-Bone, a cow like no other. While some might call him a bull, we call him a melon loving troublemaker with a heart of gold.

  • Rex

Not to be overlooked, Rex is T-Bone’s certified bestie. (Read about our newest cow Scarlett for the latest drama…) At least 15 years old and full of spunk, he stands in the pasture with his golden mane blowing- some have likened him to Bon Jovi. Keep your eyes out for Rex’s signature run, it’s quite a delight!

  • Rita & Maria

Rita and Maria are a family unit within the larger family unit of The Good Earth Farm. Mama Maria looks after her daughter Rita (Margarita for long) although with their innate protectiveness and ferocity they can handle themselves. While you can mostly find them lounging in the pasture growing their big bellies even bigger, know that they’ll protect the farm with their stomping legs at any cost (we hope).

  • Weird Harold

What else needs to be said? Weird Harold, believe it or not, was once the smaller pig and faced the intimidation of his brother Charlie. Now Harold carries the sibling duo with his strange charm and midday splash in the mud pit.

  • Charlie

Charlie, though his name doesn’t suggest it, is also weird. These brothers are maybe the biggest pigs you’ll ever see-- weighing in at over 2000 pounds. That being said, Charlie still enjoys his sunset walks through the pasture with his fellow farm animal friends.

  • Princess Buttercup

Jeff will say that there was something magic about PB. Her playfulness, intuition, and compassion endeared her to all the inhabitants and visitors of the farm-- there are many videos of her racing around the farm and trying to get Nancy’s attention from the garden. We were lucky to share the rest of her life with her at The Good Earth Farm, her final resting place.

  • Miles

A newer addition to TGE farmily, Miles is on a perpetual diet. He is sassy and slow moving, paling around with his sister when he’s not rooting around for fresh snacks.

  • Sydney

Sydney holds the status of a house inhabitant. She adores her morning walks with Nancy, and will happily spend the rest of her hours sleeping upstairs or barking at the wind. She’s as loyal and ferocious as a farmer could ever hope for, but those who have seen her whine in a storm understand her tenderness and need for love.

  • Buck

If you knew Buck, he was one of (for Sydney and Pepita’s sake) the best dogs. He was gentle, fierce, loyal, obedient, and loved his belly rubs. He took care of many newly arrived baby animals by protecting them from harm and potty training them in an intuitive way. He seems to have cared as deeply about the farm and its inhabitants as Nancy and Jeff do themselves, and he was a great friend to Nancy for the many long, solitary days of farming. He will forever be a part of The Good Earth Farmily.

  • Felix

Felix means “lucky” in latin, though Felix doesn’t seem to need luck to thrive on the farm. While he’s a love bug who vocalizes his desire for affection to any passers-by with hands for petting, he can also be seen prowling the fields for rodents and carrying dead birds in his mouth. He is a mainstay character of the farm and likely to make himself seen and felt by many farm visitors.

  • Jacques II

What a funny guy- named after Jacques the first, a sassy silky rooster with an unforgettable singing voice.

  • The Little Women

The Little Women are in fact big, noisy, ferocious, and ruthless. They are a powerful gang of sisters (Louisa May Alcott, anyone?) who are trying their best in the world. In this world, they are trying their best to scare everyone away from the farm, which isn’t entirely desired by Nancy and Jeff. So, when you see them, know that they’re more squawk than snap, and they’re just fulfilling their life-purpose of protecting their land.

  • Bert

Bert has become famous on the farm for successfully hatching secret baby chicks and protecting them through the brutal SD winter. She’s a powerhouse hen, a heck-of-a momma. When you see Bert, give her some oos and aas and don’t get too close to her babies!

The Good Earth Farm Animal Sanctuary plays a crucial role in providing a safe haven for animals in need. It serves as a refuge for a diverse range of species, offering shelter, care, and a second chance at life. Our primary focus is on ensuring the well-being and rehabilitation of these animals, relying on a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who go above and beyond to meet their physical, emotional, and medical needs.

The Good Earth Farm Animal Sanctuary provides spacious and enriched environments that allow the animals to live as closely to their natural habitats as possible, promoting their physical and mental health. Additionally, we strive to educate the public about animal welfare, conservation, and the importance of coexisting with our fellow creatures on this planet. In essence, animal sanctuaries serve as havens of compassion, offering solace, protection, and a brighter future for animals once left behind.
